Event Details

Open Gov West 2011 is being held at the Jupiter Hotel in Portland, Oregon May 13-14. The Jupiter is located at 800 East Burnside, Portland, OR 97214. Conference registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Friday, May 13, with keynote speakers and the welcome address beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Open Gov West (OGW) is a two day conference designed to help governments, technologists, and civic sector organizations explore open government and gov 2.0 topics.

OGW's day one is filled with panelists who are leaders and innovators in their fields—from emergency service professionals using innovative technology to solve on-the-ground needs, to sunlight law experts redefining what it means to be a transparent government. Day two features an "unconference" format, much like a large "poster session" where best of breed ideas, projects, and research bubble up. If you've never been to an unconference, you'll find the format to be an exciting opportunity to engage deeply around the topics you want answers on. To give you a taste of the thought-provoking discussions that await at OGW '11, a few of our prolific speakers and panelists include Tiago Peixoto, a consultant at the ICT4Gov program of the World Bank; Wally Rogers, E-Government Manager for the State of Oregon; Alan Rosenblatt, Ph.D, Social Advocacy strategist at the Center for American Progress and CAP Action Fund; Kathy E. Gill, a digital media educator at the University of Washington, and many, many others. We'll be covering a lot of ground in our discussions, with topics like social media, open sourcing, building better apps, participatory budgeting, and accessible information systems—just to name a few. The conference pass includes access to a Ignite Gov on Thursday night, the conference social event in the Jupiter Hotel's "Dream Tent" on Friday night, conference materials, catered breakfast and lunch (not your normal conference food—we're catering via Portland's famous, gourmet food trucks, including KOi Fusion PDX, Fuego de Lotus, and Oregon Ice Works).

The conference will open with registration at 7:30 a.m. Friday, May 13, and the "unconference" day two kicks off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 14. Please note that no refunds will be given within 10 days of the Open Gov West 2011 conference.
